September 1st 2016 – A positive change in Law for Childcare Settings

NDA First Aid Training Ltd are urging Childcare providers to review their Paediatric First Aid Training following the new Law that comes into effect next week.

From 1st September 2016, Newly qualified Early Years staff (Level 2 or 3 Childcare qualification) will be required to have either a full 12 Hour Paediatric First Aid certificate or a 6 Hour Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate.

Joanne and Dan Thompson, whose nine-month old daughter Millie died after choking on her lunch while at Nursery in Stockport have improved the standards for the future. In such sad circumstances we hope the more people trained, the more chance of dealing with an incident should it arise.

NDA First Aid Training Ltd one of Buckinghamshire’s leading providers of Paediatric First Aid Training, support the change in the law. Our Director and First Aid Industry Expert stated:
“The majority of our clients have always trained many staff ensuring their setting is as safe as possible. This law will now ensure ALL new Early Years staff are equipped with the skills to save a life if ever they need too. First Aid isn’t hard but it is if you don’t know where to start. I think it is awful that it takes such an incident to ensure such safety. It is far better to be proactive than reactive. I hope with this Law being introduced it will also rub off onto other settings such as Primary and Secondary Schools. Everyone should know First Aid, it is a life skill that can be used at any point not only within work hours”
Nick Ayling – NDA First Aid Training Ltd

This new Law “Millies Law” will ensure the 15,000 staff a year coming into the sector have Paediatric First Aid Training, reassuring parents that their children will be well cared for especially in an Emergency.

NDA First Aid Training Ltd’s 12 Hour Paediatric First Aid is a TQUK level 3 qualification covering a wide range of Basic Life Support and First Aid skills relating to children and infants includes the Emergency Paediatric First Aid syllabus. The course is Ofqual approved and meets the requirements of the Early Years and Child Care Register.

The TQUK 6 Hour Level 3 Emergency Paediatric First Aid at Work course covers Emergency Skills related to children and infants such as CPR, Choking, Anaphylaxis and more.

We are also introducing Online learning where these qualifications can be done both online (Theory) and in the classroom  (Practically) making it easier operationally for your setting.
